The 26,000 sq. ft. standing seam metal roof at Hancock Elementary in Hawesville, Kentucky needed a system that would not only waterproof, but restore the appearance of the architectural panel. The School asked our Dealer/Contractor, Kentex Roofing & Specialty Coatings, LLC, for a solution to their problem. Rodney Vanlandingham, with Kentex, suggested a custom tint coating system using the AWS Acrylic 211 tinted to match the brown finish that had originally come on the metal panel.
Major concerns with this type of project were the extensive prep work and guaranteeing adhesion to the existing paint. Before beginning the project, Kentex performed a field adhesion test to the panel to ensure the AWS Acrylic 211 would adhere properly. The prep work also included aggressive pressure washing using a 4,000 psi pressure washer with a turbo tip attachment to remove any loose paint or other contaminates that would hinder proper adhesion.
Waterproofing included attention to fasteners at horizontal seams, penetrations, and transitions throughout the metal system. The final steps included two coats of the custom tint AWS Acrylic 211 coating to offer the customer many years of sustained life for their metal roof.
